The CWG Delhi 2010 can be described by two statements: “pathetic planning and pathetic execution” not to mention the immense callousness , the same old dirty Indian politics mixed with corruption and yet putting a face to the public that everything is alright and good.
The media emerges as the hero “a true hero” in throwing and exposing the dirty CWG situation.
18% of world’s population reside in India and boasting about space, information technology and latest emerging businesses and a potential to become the best and fastest democracy of the world. IITs , IIMs , scientists , researchers , thinkers,educators and the economists with footprints in almost every developed and growing economies simply cannot fathom that India can just falter and be a laughing stock in the history of any sporting event.
Well this all is incomprehensible to the politicians , the secretaries and the organizers etc.
Govt. of India has a history of dealing with people and offering low quality services projecting
it like “hey this is as good as it gets” furthermore the organizers never were exposed to international quality standards.
The idea of giving it to the Govt. is the biggest mistake , it is like handing out a corrupt clerk to deal with international, “best of the class” world’s greatest athletes. How could this be even remotely possible?
Arranging the common wealth games is one of the greatest opportunity to showcase India’s potential, but here is the problem , the govt official’s attitude and mishandling is the gangrene that puts India and its pride close to a “reset” button. There are high chances that it may put India way backwards and lose the international community’s trust.
Can we assume Indians are not cut out to plan big, and are ok with low quality ? .. and where is the pride ? Is making money be a substitute for the pride of being Indian and making the games successful ? Where is that killer instinct ? Where is that strong inner desire to project the games as one of the best common wealth games ?
Well the idea behind having the CWG games was to promote sporting events not to compete with China.The games would boost the interest in sports, games and increase the competitiveness other than Cricket.
The Urban Development and Sports Ministry undermining the expectations simply did not have the quality people to run and plan the CWG. It is extremely likely that the contracts were given to the contractors through favors, those with political connections, to those who have political clout to use “high priced poor quality” material and design.
Where will this all end ? Will Indian officials wake up ? I doubt that !
This is indeed not just a wake up call up but a huge jolt to India’s capabilities. Let the ministers be sacked and the whole managing committee be fired after the games are over and let them be questioned on their personal abilities to supervise and let them be investigated legally.
